WATER & OIL DO MIX!
APPROACHES TO PAINTING WITH ACRYLICS & OILS NEW!
Jill Kiefer (JK-5)
Wednesdays, 9/17-11/19, 12:30-3:30pm
$175, Members $145
$25 supply fee paid to instructor
Oil and water don’t mix! Not necessarily true, IF you know what you’re doing! Acrylics dry quickly, are opaque (unless thinned to a glaze) and boast brilliant colors. Oils are more muted, incredibly fluid, dry slowly (permitting blending and experimentation) and have subtle translucence and unique color quality. Traditionally used independently for different purposes, acrylics and oils used together can result in paintings exemplifying the best of both. Of course, you must know how to work with each medium effectively—and how to harmonize their effects. Develop paintings working first with water-based media, followed by traditional (or water soluble) oil applications, while also exploring fundamental art concepts, such as color, composition, design, brush stroke applications and finishing techniques. Bring a canvas in any shape and size to second class.
