General Information
ABOUT THE ART CENTER’S EDUCATION PROGRAM
The Palos Verdes Art Center, a non-profit community arts organization, provides South Bay residents with quality visual arts classes for all ages from 4 to 104 and for all ability levels from novice to professional.
The Palos Verdes Art Center provides a total visual art experience. Classes (in drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, photography, digital arts, art history and more) include visits to the exhibition galleries and interaction with skilled professionals. Instruction is not based on a set formula. Small classes, taught by artists and art educators, feature instruction based on individual needs, a nurturing environment and an emphasis on helping students pursue their own special interests and projects. In addition, private and semi-private lessons can be arranged.
Terms begin in January, April, July and September. Although class fees are low, limited financial assistance is available through the Beverly G. Alpay Memorial Education Fund for the Visual Arts (see below).
REGISTRATION INFORMATION
Ten-week adult begin Monday, September 15, 2008, and eight-week children’s classes begin Monday, September 22, 2008. Check individual class listings for any schedule changes.

Except for courses canceled by the Palos Verdes Art Center, there will be a $10 processing fee for any refund. Courses dropped prior to Sunday, September 14, 2008 (Sunday, September 21 for children’s classes), will receive full refunds, less the processing fee. For courses dropped during the first full week of classes, 70% of the tuition (minus the $10 processing fee) will be refunded. There will be NO refunds for courses dropped on or after Sunday, September 21, 2008 (Sunday, September 28 for children’s classes). Allow five weeks for refunds to be processed.

Those seeking assistance pay a nominal amount ($10 for a children’s class and $25 for an adult class). The Alpay Fund and the Art Center cover the rest of the tuition. Students are responsible for any supplies or special supply fees. Scholarships are not available for weekend workshops.
While there is no formal needs test, recipients are asked to sign a statement certifying that they are unable to afford the class without financial assistance.
Five scholarships are available each term and are granted on a first come basis. Recipients are limited to one class each. Summer 2008 recipients are ineligible this fall. To apply, call Angela Hoffman, education coordinator, (310) 541-2479.
