Summer Art Camp Schedule

ART-RAGEOUS Summer Camp

Half-day: $200 (members $170) morning 9am-noon OR afternoon 1-4pm
Full-day: $270 (members $240) 9am – 4pm (bring your lunch!)
NO Early Bird Discount on camps.

Week 1: July 19-23

Morning

MARVELOUS MOSAICS
Robin Bott. (AC RB-1) Use ceramic tiles to make a mosaic frame, create a wall hanging, try glass plate collage, use pebbles and stones to fashion a nature mosaic and more!

Afternoon

LIVING IN THE LAND OF MAKE BELIVE Class Cancelled
Karla Commins (AC KC-1) Collage a fairy-godmother, assemble a fanciful landscape, construct a magic castle, make up your own stories and paint scenes from your stories.

Week 2: July 26-30

Morning

DRAW YOUR CAKE & EAT IT TOO! Class Filled-please call to be placed on wait list
Sandi Wilson (AC SW-1) Inspired by dessert and Wayne Thiebaud—decorate cookie treats, but don’t lose them forever! Capture them in paint before eating! Create a cake of felt and fabric. Each day brings a new treat and a new work of art!

FUN WITH 3-D
Robin Bott (AC RB-2) Cartoon sculptures, plaster casting, wall hangings, ice cream cone and cup cake sculptures and abstract wood assemblages are just some of the great projects waiting for you!

Week 3: August 2-6

Morning

ANIMALS & MASKS Class Filled-please call to be placed on wait list
Robin Bott (AC RB-3) Use oil pastels to draw and paint wild animals from around the world. Create a variety of animal masks using papier mache, foam, plaster and more!

Afternoon

ICONS OF SUMMER
Arzu Kosar (AC AK-1) Sun, surf, dolphins, flip flops, shades, beach umbrellas, ice cream, lemonade, flower leis, flip flops, convertible cars… paint, sculpt, assemble these summer icons. Create a beachy backdrop for a summer party on the last day.

Week 4: August 9-13

CATCH THE ART BUG Class Filled-please call to be placed on wait list
Karla Commins (AC KC-2) Explore the garden and its intriguing creatures. Assemble giant cellophane butterflies. Use crayon-resist and paint from a bug’s point of view. Print garden scenes on t-shirts, sculpt clay creepy crawlies and construct a paper frog and lily pad.

INSIDE MY HEAD
Teresa Tolliver (AC TT-1) Open up the whole universe through sculpture, assemblage and paintings. Turn the ordinary into the extraordinary with clay, paints, metal, handmade paper and more. Be inspired by artists such as Georgia O’Keeffe and Basquet.

Week 5: August 16-20

SHADOW BOXES & WALL CREATURES Class Filled
Teresa Tolliver (AC TT-2) Let your imagination run wild while learning the basic techniques of painting and sculpture. Make a mixed- media assemblage in a shadow box. It might be exciting, funny, sweet or fierce. It might be a wall creature or a person. Work with paper, metal, wood, paper clay and other materials.

UNDERSEA ADVENTURES Class Filled
Edie Zelon (AC EZ-1) Embellish a wooden treasure box with shells and glass beads, paint sea life on canvas, learn a special technique to replicate stained glass, sculpt a clay sea creature and try many more fun projects using watercolors, pastels and charcoals while exploring the underwater world.

Morning

SUMMER JOURNEY FROM SELF PORTRAITS TO SECRET GARDENS
Jacquie Dreager (AC JD-1) Trying to capture their personalities on canvas, artists throughout history have painted themselves. Who can forget Vincent Van Gogh’s many wild looking self portraits? Explore what is unique about you through printmaking, collage, photography and painting. Use Xerox transfer to create a secret garden with butterflies, dinosaurs, exotic plants, bugs and birds. Build a box with collage materials and a sculpture to put inside.

ONCE UPON A TIME Class Filled
Sandi Wilson (AC SW-2) Experience adventure in art through fairytales and frogs, damsels and dragons! Create a collage of a beautiful princess with jewels and glitter. Paint an enchanted frog. Design a 3-D dragon or castle. Live happily ever after!

Week 2: July 26-30

ANCIENT GREECE
Jennifer Siegal (AC JS-1) Explore ancient Greece while painting a simple portrait of your favorite god, learning about the Greek ideal of art and sculpting a bas relief.

Afternoon

TIMSTRUMENTS STRING-A-SONG
Tim Donovan (AC TD-1) Make simple instruments (wooden box banjo, tone box, woodwinds and percussion instruments) and puppets to explore music and art. Create marionettes that will play a drum and dance.

Week 3: August 2-6

Morning

BUDDING ARCHITECTS Class Filled-please call to be placed on wait list
Alyse Anderson (AC AA-1) Build a model skyscraper from wood, cardboard and other sturdy materials; paint a city skyline, and make other crafts to explore architecture. Join a scavenger hunt on the patio to learn fun facts about architecture using drawings, photographs and written text as clues. Illustrate a postcard by drawing your favorite discoveries.

POP POP POP POP ART
Karla Commins (AC KC-3) Go wild with the pop art and pop culture of the sixties! Warhol-inspired portraits, rock posters, larger-than-life papier-mâché sculptures! Make the ordinary extraordinary!

Week 4: August 9-13

Morning

RAINFOREST
Jennifer Siegal (AC JS-2) Explore the flora and fauna of the rainforest while creating watercolors, dioramas, wall art and papier-mâché sculptures.

Afternoon

FOOLIN’ THE EYE
Karla Commins (AC KC-4) Create brain-teasing art projects using optical illusions, vibrating colors and wacky perspectives. Let M.C. Escher inspire your sculptural collage, pop-up book, kaleidoscope, psychedelic graphics and other eye-popping projects!

Week 5: August 16-20
Morning

PASSPORT TO THE ARTS: AROUND THE WORLD IN JUST 5 DAYS! Class Filled
Robin Kiss (AC RK-1) Take an imaginary cruise making art projects inspired by a port of call’s culture or a master artist who called the country home. Create a “passport” stamp, explore the Orient, stop over Down Under, safari in Africa, stay in the rainforest, take a transatlantic voyage, then home to the USA. Pack light! There will be lots of souvenirs to take home!

Afternoon

TOY PEOPLE & OTHER CREATURES Class Filled
Teresa Tolliver (AC TT-3) Find the excitement of sculpture and motivate the imagination with painting. Create mixed media sculptures of people and animal with paper clay faces and bodies made of toys, metal, plastic objects and recycled materials. Combine drawings using oil pastels, paints and inks on a wooden base.
