What is the Grand Prize?
A $3,595,000 valued house in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA AND $2,000,000 cash. Designed by famed California architect Pierre Koenig, the 1966 home is an exemplar of mid-century modern design. Remodeled and expanded by Robert Sweet in 2011, the four bedroom, four bath, 3,279 square foot home features post-and-beam design, open-space floor plan, floor-to-ceiling glass, hardwood wall treatments, fountain entry, kitchen with island and breakfast bar, dining room, living room, den, home office, wall fireplace, patios, pool, spa, attached two car garage and ocean views.
Who can buy a raffle ticket?
Anyone 18 years of age or older may purchase a ticket. Employees and members of the Board of Trustees of PVAC and Harrington Group, their spouses and children are excluded from participating. Any offer to participate is void where prohibited by law.
Do I have to be present at the drawing(s) to win?
No. You do not need to be present to win.
What happens to the proceeds generated by the raffle?
Proceeds from the 2016 Palos Verdes Dream House Raffle benefit the Palos Verdes Art Center/Beverly G. Alpay Center for Arts Education for children and adults. The mission of the Palos Verdes Art Center is to “inspire adults and children to create, appreciate and celebrate art.” Since 1931, its exhibition, education, and outreach programs have made the arts available, accessible, and affordable for the economically and ethnically diverse South Bay community of Los Angeles County, CA. Wide-ranging programs and exhibitions engage everyone from toddlers to seniors. Free art exhibitions, studio art classes and workshops, school-based art education, and community events are some of the Palos Verdes Art Center’s most significant offerings.
How does the raffle benefit Palos Verdes Art Center?
The funds generated help the Palos Verdes Art Center fund exhibition, education, and outreach programs making visual arts available, accessible and affordable.
Has the advertised Grand Prize been awarded in previous years?
Yes! The Palos Verdes Art Center's Dream House Raffle has given away the advertised Grand Prize Seven Times and the Winner has picked the Palos Verdes Home Twice with over $13,500,000 in cash and prizes awarded in the previous 13 house raffles ! The Palos Verdes Art Center is one of the few house raffles to actually give away a house or the Grand Prize Cash prize of up to $1.5 million dollars.
How will winners be notified?
The first name listed on the ticket will be notified by phone and U.S. mail using the contact info provided on the entry form.
Is my raffle ticket tax-deductible?
No. The IRS position is that amounts paid for chances to win in raffles, lotteries, or similar drawings for valuable prizes are wagers, and consequently do not qualify as deductible charitable contributions.
What if I don’t like, or I am unable to accept the prize I win? Is there a cash alternative?
Grand Prize Options:
If fewer than 55,000 tickets are sold as of 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 10, 2016, the raffle will be held as scheduled, and all prizes other than the Grand Prize will be awarded as advertised; and the Grand Prize winner will receive a 50% share of the net raffle proceeds, not to exceed $1,000,000, (less withholding for federal and/or state income taxes). Net raffle proceeds are defined as the balance of funds left after paying all other prizes and all raffle expenses. The raffle expenses as determined by PVAC and audited by the Harrington Group shall be final. Also, at its sole discretion, PVAC may elect to give away the Dream House, regardless of the total number of tickets sold.
If at least 55,000 tickets are sold by the May 10, 2016 deadline, the Grand Prize winner will have the choice of (a) the 2016 Dream House (including the $2,000,000 cash), or (b) the $1,000,000 cash prize. The Grand Prize winner must make an election in writing between the 2016 Dream House package or the cash prize no later than 3:00 p.m. May 24, 2016. Such choice is at the winner’s sole discretion. The Grand Prize winner is strongly urged to seek professional legal and accounting advice on the tax effects of election as to the respective choices.
Can I be entered into all drawings?
There will be one Holiday Bonus Drawing and two Early Bird Drawings held prior to the Grand Prize drawing. You will be eligible for the Holiday Bonus Drawing if your ticket is purchased by 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 1, 2015 and Early Bird #1 Drawing if your ticket is purchased 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 29, 2016, and you will be eligible for the Early Bird #2 Drawing if your ticket is purchased by 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 19, 2016 The Grand Prize drawing eligibility requires that you purchase your ticket by 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2016. Additionally, if you purchase two or more tickets, you will become eligible for three additional “Multiple Ticket Drawings”. Should you win any of the previous drawings, your ticket is placed back in the drum for subsequent drawings.
Where can I see the breakdown of all the prizes, deadlines, and drawings?
How much does a raffle ticket cost?
Raffle tickets are $150 each. More than one name may be entered on the ticket to indicate that any prize won is to be shared. Only the names provided on the ticket will be eligible to receive prizes. Unless otherwise designated, winnings will be divided equally among all names on the winning ticket.
How many raffle tickets will be sold?
No more than 60,000 tickets will be issued, only 55,000 tickets must be sold to give away the House Package.
How many tickets can I buy?
You may purchase as many available tickets as you wish.
How do I purchase tickets?
Purchase tickets in one of the following three ways:
When will I get my ticket(s)?
As soon as your payment clears, your ticket(s) will be processed. All corresponding ticket stubs will be entered into the raffle drum and you will receive a ticket(s) receipt in the mail. Please allow four weeks for delivery. All tickets purchased before an entry deadline are included in a drawing even if the purchaser’s ticket receipt(s) arrives in the mail after the drawing date. Your ticket receipt is not required to prove winning status.
What are the Early Bird and Bonus Drawings and how do I qualify?
To reward early participants, if a ticket(s) is purchased on or before 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 1, 2015, it is entered into the Holiday Bonus Drawing for A River Cruise for Two or $5000 cash prize. If a ticket(s) is purchased on or before 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 29, 2016 it is automatically entered into the Early Bird #1 Drawing for a new 2016 BMW 428i Convertible or $40,000 cash. Eligibility for Early Bird #2 Drawing requires a ticket be purchased on or before 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 19, 2016; this drawing includes a new 2016 Mini Cooper S or $25,000 cash prize. All tickets are automatically entered into all upcoming drawings remaining from time of purchase to conclusion of the 2016 Palos Verdes Dream House Raffle campaign, including the Final Drawings and Grand Prize Drawing.
What are the Multiple Ticket Drawings and how do I qualify for them?
Each Multiple Ticket Drawing is an incentive drawing for ticket buyers who purchase more than one ticket. The earlier participants enter, the more Multiple Ticket Drawings they are entered into, and thus the more prizes they are eligible for. As soon as you purchase two or more tickets at the same time, ALL your tickets with identical names and addresses go into the additional Multiple Ticket Drawings (if the purchase deadline dates are met). You will be eligible for not only the Multiple Ticket drawing(s), but the two Early Bird Drawings and Grand Prize Drawings, as well. If you purchase two or more tickets by the first Multiple Ticket Deadline on March 29, 2016, your tickets will be entered in all three Multiple Ticket Drawings and all other drawings.
Multiple Ticket Deadline #1: 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 29, 2016
If two or more tickets are purchased on or before Thursday March 29, 2016 (by 6:00 p.m.), all tickets are automatically entered into the Multiple Ticket #1 Drawing. These tickets are automatically re-entered for the Multiple Ticket #2 Drawing, Multiple Ticket Grand Prize Drawing for $25,000 and All Grand Prize Drawings.
